Under the supervision of the Legal Director, the Staff Attorney will be responsible for investigating, researching, developing, and pursuing civil liberties and civil rights impact litigation across the entire range of civil rights and liberties issues. The attorney will litigate individual and class action cases raising constitutional, statutory, and common law claims. The Staff Attorney will litigate D.C. and federal courts, at trial and appellate levels, through direct representation and the filing of amicus briefs. The Staff Attorney should have the ability to exercise sound judgment in litigation strategy and impact-litigation case selection, usually operating as part of a team but occasionally operating independently. The Staff Attorney will collaborate with staff in other departments to set goals and implement strategies that advance ACLU-DC priorities.
